Goodbye is What I Could Have Said

by Adelaine

I'll tell you a story about a boy.
A boy with friends and all.
He was a boy of only seven.
Enjoying life and all.

Yet one day when he woke up,
I noticed his deep dark eyes.
He was cheerful as I saw him,
His inside's though were boring.

And when I asked him why,
His speech would only cry.
He said he dreamt a day would come,
Where all his friends would die.

He asked me if that dream was true.
All I could do was freeze.
I tried to let my voice sound,
Yet not a word to hear.
He asked me why I couldn't speak.
I told him I didn't know why.

So after that day,
And the night of the other,
Came the boy with his spirit high.
He ran to me,
And craved for attention,
And said with a quick gay smile,
If a friend would die,
I know what to say,
I'd like to say goodbye.
