Imaginary Friends

by Sarah Drew

Hiding up in his room
Mom and dad are at it again
All the yelling scares him

Curled up in the corner
He covers his ears
Going to his own little world

Everything there is perfect
Nobody yells or hits
He plays with his friends

Nothing can go wrong here
Not with his imagination
It protects him from the world

They laugh and play together
Happiness doesn't seem so far
Not with his imaginary friends

They play their little games
Cheerful and friendly
All smiles all the time

He doesn't want to go back to reality
Not with friends like these
Not when his real life is so bad

He wishes mommy could come here
She would love it too
She could meet Ed, Stan, and all the others

If only they could escape together
No more dad there to hurt them
All they need is his imaginary friends
