The petals wither from my palm
Like my friends who are now long gone
For a while they were in full bloom
Unknowing that I'd feel this gloom
In my hand, the wind blows so calm
The petals wither from my palm
Dead flowers smell like lost friendship
My memories linger then slip
I long dream of much better days
Before we went our separate ways
The petals wither from my palm
Creating reason for this psalm
Waiting for someone to plant seed
Judge them to be flower or weed
Gentle breeze blows but not for long
The petals wither from my palm
***A Quatern is a sixteen line French form composed of four quatrains. It is similar to the Kyrielle and the Retourne. It has a refrain that is in a different place in each quatrain. The first line of stanza one is the second line of stanza two, third line of stanza three, and fourth line of stanza four. A quatern has eight syllables per line. It does not have to be iambic or follow a set rhyme scheme. ***
